How long does it take for inmates to receive money through JPay? ›

JPay generally transmits payments within one to two business days, with the exception of lockbox money order payments, which are generally processed within ten business days of receipt of the money order by JPay.

All letters, cards, and other correspondence MUST be sent DIRECTLY to the inmate at the facility where they are housed. It is REQUIRED to have their Full Name, Date of Birth, Jail ID Number or Booking Number. You can find all this information on our Inmate Search page.

The Corrections Bureau is made up of two separate correctional sites designed for a combined housing capacity of 2,908 inmates. The central location in downtown Austin, TX includes the Travis County Jail and the Central Booking Facility.

In his notice to the judge, state Attorney General Ken Paxton said most of the transferred inmates would be sent to two facilities that already have air conditioning — about 425 to the Travis County State Jail in East Austin, and about 500 to the Diboll Correctional Center about 110 miles north of Houston.

Prisons typically receive mail within a few days to a week, depending on where it's sent from. When you send photos through Pelipost, the facility receives your pictures within 5-7 days.

The transfer occurs three weeks to six months after approval. It's harder to get a transfer to a metroplex area like Houston or Dallas. Make sure the inmate wants to transfer before the family member requests the transfer.
