Tony Romo was born in San Diego, California and grew up in Burlington, Wisconsin.

Despite being a baseball phenom from a young age, Romo fell in love with football in high school, where he was the starting quarterback for the Burlington High School football team. He would go on to play college football at Division I-AA program Eastern Illinois University, where he spent three seasons.

He won OVC Player of the Year in three consecutive seasons while dominating at the program.

Romo declared for the 2003 NFL Draft after his stellar college career, but went undrafted before signing with the Dallas Cowboys as a free agent. Romo earned the starting job in Dallas in 2006 after starting the season backing up Drew Bledsoe. He made his first Pro Bowl that year after leading the Cowboys to the playoffs, but lost to the Seahawks in the Wild Card.

He made his second Pro Bowl appearance in 2007 but failed to get the Cowboys past the Divisional Round of the postseason as the Cowboys were bested by the rival New York Giants.

With Romo under center, the Cowboys made two more playoff appearances, in 2009 and 2014, but never made it to the Super Bowl, suffering second-round exits in each of those two seasons at the hands of the Vikings and Packers, respectively.

Romo signed a massive six-year, $108 million contract extension with the Cowboys in 2013, though he didn't see out the full length of the deal.

Following Dallas' playoff exit in 2014, Romo spent the 2015 campaign on the sideline after suffering a broken collarbone. He served as the backup to Dak Prescott in 2016 and retired at the end of the year.

Throughout his career, Romo tossed 248 touchdowns to 117 interceptions and amassed over 34,000 passing yards while maintaining a pristine 97.1 passer rating.
