Hello! I’m Nicole from Teaching With Style and I’m so excited to be over here on Melissa’s new blog, Inspire Me, ASAP!
Melissa has some amazing ideas and her units have come in handy MANY times! When I moved from 1st to 3rd a few years ago, my new team wasn’t as strong as my 1st grade team had been and didn’t share hardly at all. Luckily, Melissa and her awesome units came to my rescue when I didn’t know what to do! She really did inspire me, asap!
Today, I am home with my sick little boy. What better thing to share with you than some substitute ideas!
I usually like to have my subs continue with what I normally teach, to make the day go as smoothly as possible and the kids to stay in their routines. But sometimes, that doesn’t happen and I need to use emergency plans. Click over to this post (it’s a couple years old, but I still use the same system!)
My school is located in a rural community, so most of the subs are not trained teachers. This becomes a problem with classroom management. And to make matters worse, I use Whole Brain Teaching, which none of my other colleagues do, so subs really have no idea what it’s all about. Instead of typing up a whole page teaching them about WBT, I make this handy procedural cheat sheet. I staple it on the front of my daily sub plans, so they can carry it around with them. Subs have mentioned that they really like this strategy and that it helps them throughout the day.
Since I know that you all have your own unique rules and procedures, I made an edible file for you! It is a PowerPoint file, so you will need that program in order to use it. Go ahead and snag this *EDITABLE* freebie from Google Drive!
Do you have any substitute tips? What works well in your room when you have a sub?

My sub tip is to have a binder/tub all ready because you never know :) Seating chart is helpful too!

Great idea for a seating chart! I'm sure some little stinkers try to trick the sub and not sit in their spot!

This is a great idea! Thank you for offering it!

Love this, thank you! What font did you use for the procedures? They didn't come out the same way when I downloaded it.

I love this! Especially the Pencil Sharpener! Even during tutoring, I can't count how many times a student says "I have to sharpen my pencil!!" I'll work that into my routine
