Split pea soup is my ALL TIME favorite soup and there’s no better way to make it than in the slow cooker! It’s creamy, healthy, and it doesn’t get any easier than throwing everything in a slow cooker!

You can tell just from reading this ingredient list that it’s going to be packed full of flavor!

Here’s what you need to make the slow cooker split pea soup.

  • 16ouncesdry split peas
  • 3large carrots
  • 1medium yellow onion
  • 3ribs of celery
  • 3garlic cloves
  • 8ouncesdiced ham
  • 1teaspoonoregano
  • 1/2teaspoonsalt
  • 6cupschicken broth

Now, I don’t always do this but sometimes I like to add some fun shaped noodles in the soup to really fill up my kids’ bellies! If you want to add the noodles, just boil them in a separate pot and add them in at the end.

my husband loves split pea soup. I usually make it after I serve a ham, so I will keep the ham bone and make stock to make the soup with it!

I did not. As the peas cook, they will break down when you stir it.

Yes, You could. just keep an eye on it because the peas will tend to cook faster on the bottom of the slow cooker so you’ll have to stir them frequently.

Hi Alana, I’ve made this on the stove top many times. Just keep it covered, simmer on low, and stir frequently. When the peas have broken down and are completely soft, it’s done!
