Position Overview: Your Role in Empowering Women

SIHA is seeking a meticulous and passionate Grants Associate to bolster its regional team in the crucial task of managing subgranting processes with effectiveness and transparency. This role offers flexibility, allowing you to work remotely or on-site in one of the countries where SIHA maintains operations. You'll be reporting directly to the Regional Grants and Movement Building Coordinator, collaborating closely with the Regional Programme Manager. Your core responsibility will be to ensure that all subgranting activities adhere strictly to both SIHA's internal policies and the requirements set forth by its donors. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in maintaining the highest standards of accountability and efficiency throughout the subgrant administration lifecycle, from the initial application and review stages to reporting and rigorous evaluation. The Grants Associate will also collaborate closely with country teams, finance personnel, and Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) units. This collaborative approach will be pivotal in enhancing the overall quality and impact of SIHA's grant-making initiatives.

Key Responsibilities: What You'll Be Doing

Grant Administration and Compliance

  • Ensuring that all subgrant applications and awards are fully compliant with both donor guidelines and SIHA's internal policies.
  • Meticulously reviewing, tracking, and documenting every aspect of subgrant management, including applications, contracts, disbursements, and reporting schedules.
  • Providing comprehensive support to partners and country teams to ensure they meet all compliance and reporting obligations.
  • Collaborating closely with finance colleagues to carefully review budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure cost-effective project implementation.
  • Maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the subgrant database, ensuring that all grant-related processes and outcomes are documented accurately and kept up to date.

Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL)

  • Collaborating with MEL teams to contribute actively to data collection and progress tracking of subgrantees.
  • Generating insightful analytical reports and summaries that highlight key trends, challenges encountered, and best practices identified.
  • Promoting a culture of continuous learning by actively sharing lessons learned from grant implementation. This ensures that knowledge is disseminated and utilized to improve future grant-making efforts.

Coordination and Capacity Support

  • Supporting the coordination of training sessions and partner meetings related to grant management and compliance.
  • Facilitating seamless communication and collaboration among partners, ensuring information flows effectively between SIHA’s regional and country offices.
  • Helping develop user-friendly tools and templates that streamline subgrantee reporting and enhance accountability.

Governance and Integrity

  • Upholding SIHA’s core principles of transparency, inclusion, and fairness in all grant-related processes.
  • Handling sensitive information with the utmost discretion and adhering strictly to confidentiality policies.

Required Qualifications and Experience: What You Need to Succeed

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Women’s Rights, Social Studies, Communication and Advocacy, Human Rights, Development Studies, Management, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience: A minimum of four (4) years of demonstrable experience in grants management, program administration, or information processing within an NGO or development organization.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with a particular emphasis on Excel.
    • A working knowledge of budgeting principles, contracting procedures, and financial management practices.
    • Strong analytical and reporting capabilities.
  • Languages: Excellent command of written and spoken English is essential. Proficiency in Arabic, Somali, or Amharic is considered a significant advantage.
  • Regional Experience: Familiarity with the operational and political landscapes of Somalia, Somaliland, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, or Djibouti.
