As an acute care hospital, we have a Level III Trauma Center, a certified chest pain center, a certified total joint restoration center, an accredited primary stroke center and are the only hospital in the area to be nationally accredited in bariatric surgery.

History. Deaconess Hospital was established 128 years ago in 1896 as one of the first hospitals in Spokane. One of its early specialties was orthopedic surgery. It is located immediately south of Interstate 90 at Fourth Avenue, on the west side of Lewis and Clark High School in the Cliff/Cannon neighborhood.

In 2017, Deaconess, Valley and Rockwood Clinic were purchased by MultiCare Health System, which is based in Tacoma.

Parking on campus

MultiCare Deaconess Hospital provides three visitor parking locations. Parking garages are available at Visitor Parking 1 and Parking B, and a parking lot is available at Visitor Parking 2. The parking fee for all locations is $3.00 (all day).

Across Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho, Harborview Medical Center is the only facility providing Level I trauma services – the most advanced care, available 24/7 – to adult and pediatric patients.

A Level I trauma center can provide the highest level of care for a patient presenting after a traumatic injury. A Level IV or V trauma center will stabilize an injured patient and arrange for transfer to a higher level of care. This designation is unique for adult and pediatric facilities.

After 15 years as president and CEO, and a total of 43 years with Deaconess Health System, Linda E. White retired on June 30, 2017. Effective July 1, 2017, Shawn McCoy became CEO of the health system and Dr. James Porter became president.
