Michelle Wu, who has been the city’s mayor since November 2021, advocated that charges such as shoplifting and disorderly conduct should be off limits for prosecutors, as well as more serious crimes like driving with a suspended licence and the receiving of stolen property.
Wu’s progressive philosophy, however, goes even further where offenders who commit “quality of life” crimes will receive little more than a slap on the wrist, Fox News reported.
Those crimes include the breaking and entering of property, wanton and malicious destruction of property, minors in possession of alcohol, and drug possession including the distribution of marijuana and non-marijuana types.
The offences are all on a “do-not-prosecute” list created by former Suffolk County District Attorney Rachael Rollins, who advocated for no prosecution for so-called “low-level” offences, according to the news outlet.

Before she was elected into office, Wu supported a number of soft-on-crime policies including backing Rollins’ list and terminating the Boston Police Department’s gang database, according to the “2021 Boston Mayoral Candidate Questionnaire” from the non-profit Progressive Massachusetts, obtained by Fox.
She replied, “Yes,” when asked if she supported the “the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office’s do-not-prosecute list and expanded approach to dealing with such low-level offenses.”
And when asked if she would “support shuttering the Boston Police gang database,” Wu also responded, “Yes.”

Mayor Wu promised to reallocate police funds to other city priorities.
She also believes in demilitarizing law enforcement, opposing the use of tear gas, rubber bullets and attack dogs.

Last year, Wu was slammed for organizing a holiday party for non-white city council members.
“Honorable members: On behalf of Mayor Michelle Wu, I cordially invite you and a guest to the Electeds of Color Holiday Party,” an email read — which was mistakenly sent to everyone.
Shortly after the email was sent out, Wu’s aide apologized and clarified that the invite was only intended for minority city councillors — but Wu herself did not apologize.
